What: Partnership Against Domestic Violence presents Spotlight On Teen Dating Violence: What’s Your Role? The summit will help teens and parents identify the warning signs of teen dating violence; develop the tools to build healthy relationships and discover what their role is in preventing teen dating violence. It’s important to teach teens about building healthy relationships while they are still forming ideas of what it means to be in a dating relationship. By learning about TDV and healthy relationships, teens can avoid the patterns of abuse before they become ingrained.

Who should attend: Teens 13 years or older; parents or guardians of teens; educators and youth leaders.

Why: 1 in 4 teens report verbal, physical, emotional or sexual abuse in their dating relationship. Consider these facts:

o Thirty percent of all homicides of girls ages 15 to 19 are committed by their boyfriends.

o 1 in 3 teens report knowing a friend or peer who has been physically abused by their partner.

o Nearly 80 percent of girls who have been physically abused in their dating relationships continue to date their abuser.

Emceed by: Beyonce, Hot 107.9 radio personality and survivor of teen dating violence

Special Feature: “You The Man,” presented by Add Verb Production. “You The Man” is a one-man play addressing unhealthy relationships, dating violence and sexual assault. YTM raises concerns, dispels myths, addresses social pressures and offers insight on the dangers of teen dating violence.
